Oncologist Appointment & PET Scan Results

On January 22nd, I had my latest PET Scan and received the results about a week later.

The results showed a very slight improvement. The tumor by my clavicle was not visible so it might be gone, but we are not sure. The activity of my other tumors slowed down by .1 to .2, which isn’t much, but at least it’s in the right direction. My oncologist expected my scan to be worse this time than in October, so we were both happy with these results.

I asked him if my new medication could have made any difference in my scan this soon. He said that it was doubtful but not impossible because, at the time of my appointment with him, I had only been through one round of the new medication, so for only two weeks.

So, in April, I will have another PET scan, and we will know then how effective my new medication is on my tumors. With any luck I will have a big improvement, and my tumors will have shrunk a little and slowed down in their activity.

We also discussed my bloodwork which is looking good, well at least for me. My white blood cell count is in the normal range, red blood cell count is still about a full point low, which is normal for me, and my ANC is also in the normal range.

Unfortunately, the company that does the molecular testing came back and said that they did not receive enough material from my biopsy to test. My oncologist said he does not want to put me through another biopsy immediately, so we will wait and see what my scan in April looks like first.
